What are the symptoms?

• In the neck, radiculopathy occurs when a nerve is irritated or injured, and pain, numbness and/or weakness is referred into the neck, trapezius, between the shoulder blades, arms or may cause headaches.
  
• In the back, radiculopathy occurs when a nerve is irritated or injured, and pain, numbness and/or weakness is referred into the back, buttocks, hips, groins, thighs, legs, or feet.

The most common cause of radiculopathy is a herniated disc. A herniated disc occurs when the soft gel-like interior of a spinal disc pushes through a tear in the rubbery outer shell. In many cases, the bulge compresses a nerve in your spine, causing radiculopathy symptoms.
